Companies setting up in Brazil often plan for engineers and forget the IT function that keeps the entity operating — and then discover that the two are different markets with different pay levels, different career paths and different reasons for saying yes.

Corporate IT is not product engineering

Product engineering builds what you sell and is measured on delivery. Corporate IT sustains what you operate — network, endpoints, identity, ERP, backup — and is measured on availability, which means being noticed only when something fails.

This distinction matters commercially. Corporate IT does not compete head-on with the dollar-denominated remote work that sets the reference point for senior product engineers here, so the band is different. But it does lose people to that market over time, as infrastructure professionals deepen cloud skills and get pulled toward engineering roles.

Business systems carry local complexity

ERP and business systems roles in Brazil are harder to fill than an equivalent brief elsewhere, because the systems have to handle Brazilian tax and statutory reporting — including the digital bookkeeping obligations filed through SPED and state-level VAT rules that differ by state.

A systems analyst who understands this is not interchangeable with one who has configured the same product in another country. Treat it as a specialist requirement and budget for it — this is the role whose absence stops invoicing, not just reporting.

Where to focus assessment

Describe the worst incident you handled. People who genuinely operated know the timeline, the decision they made under pressure and what changed afterwards. People who observed describe the event without a decision of their own inside it.

What part of your routine did you automate? It separates ticket-closers from people who improve the system, and predicts growth better than any certification list.

Security roles deserve particular scrutiny. It is the scarcest family and the one where certifications most often appear without operational experience behind them — the distance between knowing the framework and having run an incident is large.

English level is worth assessing honestly rather than assuming, because corporate IT in a subsidiary works directly with headquarters systems teams. Follow-up continues for 90 days, where the most common early-departure cause is mundane: the person still does not have the access they need to do the job.
