Marketing director recruitment in Brazil

HProjekt runs searches for marketing leadership in Brazil — where the channel mix, and therefore the profile that succeeds, differs more from other markets than most head offices expect.

Marketing is the function where a global playbook translates least well. Brazil has its own channel habits, its own platform mix and its own regulatory constraints on customer data — and a marketing leader hired against a headquarters template tends to spend a year discovering that.

Messaging channels are a primary channel here

Messaging apps are central to how Brazilians communicate with businesses, for support, sales and post-sale alike. A marketing organisation that treats messaging as an afterthought behind email is planning against a market that does not behave that way.

This matters when assessing candidates: someone whose experience is entirely email-and-paid-search will need to rebuild assumptions. Not disqualifying, but worth surfacing rather than discovering.

Data protection shapes what you can do

Brazil's general data protection law (LGPD) governs how personal data is collected and used, including for marketing, and requires a lawful basis for processing. Consent mechanics, retention and the handling of data subject requests are operational concerns for a marketing team, not just legal ones.

A marketing director here should be able to discuss this without being prompted. Confirm your own obligations with Brazilian counsel — but the person you hire should already treat it as part of campaign design rather than a review step at the end.

Brand and demand are different hires

Brand and communications works on a long horizon with attribution that is genuinely hard. Demand generation works on a short one with daily numbers and shared accountability for pipeline. Few people are excellent at both, and hiring one while expecting the other is the most common failure in this seat.

Decide before the search which one your entry actually needs. For a company establishing itself in Brazil the honest answer is usually demand first and brand later — but say so, because it changes who will take the job.

Useful questions: what spend did you cut and how did you decide; how did you and sales resolve lead-quality disputes; and which campaign of yours failed and how did you know. The last one distinguishes a measurement culture from a reporting one. Follow-up continues for 90 days, where the early signal is whether marketing and sales agree on what a good lead is.
